I post about it every so often, but I again wish to take a moment to mention how much I love my breakfast sandwich making toaster.
Some water in the tray on the right
Pop in bread, and egg and whatever topping I want heated and turn it on and go about getting ready and in a few minutes…hot breakfast sandwich waiting to be assembled!
You can see how much it’s been used since you can no longer read the brand lettering. 😂

Picture of a black plastic and stainless steel breakfast making toaster with two slice opening and a compartment on the right that is clouded with condensation as it steams an egg and a couple links of sausage.

One of the (first world) issues with the being an Icelandophile is following a ton of Icelanders and sometimes seeing links to Icelandic news stories which I’d like to read.
I’d have to copy the URL, open Safari, go to google translate, tap the website button, paste, tap go. A royal pain.
But I finally automated all that with Shortcuts.
Now I just hit the share button, choose the shortcut, and a webview opens with the Google translate page right there.

The feature that I'm most surprised hasn't really made it to web browsers at scale is "Window Management". We get multiple windows, but where your links *go* when you click in other apps is unpredictable (often 'last focused' -- bad!), and theres no affordances to make it feel like PWAs are part of the same 'flow', etc.

There's a funny thing you see in many scientific papers - especially #AI papers: The paper will prominently include a link to a GitHub repository with claims of code availability "soon" but when you go there (months after the paper was released) there's either just a placeholder or the paper text.
People use GitHub links to score browny points for "doing open science&quo…

Got to giggle at all these right wing North Americans finding out about Islamic finance for the first time and vowing to apply for it out of hate.
Yes, go right ahead and obtain a worse financial product based on beliefs you don't even hold, while screaming "I'm not owned! I'm not owned!"
(In case not obvious, Islamic finance has been a thing in Europe for a very very long time and very few people care or even notice.)

Draft of condo newsletter was sent for approval. The board liked the idea about WiFi and security. I couldn't go into much detail, but I tried to cover why it is a very bad idea running an open home network. Links to basic reading and a couple of apps I use for scans.
